About Africa

Africa, the planet’s 2nd largest continent and the second most-populous continent includes 53 individual countries. With just over a billion people it accounts for just over 17% of the world’s human population. It also contains the world’s longest river system, the Nile River system, and the world’s largest Desert, the massive Sahara Desert.

Africa is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, both the Suez Canal and the Red Sea along the Sinai Peninsula, the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. The continent straddles the equator and encompasses numerous climate areas, and is the only continent to stretch from the northern temperate zones to southern temperate zones.

Africa, particularly central eastern Africa, is widely thought to be the origin of humans.

A rich cultural diversity and vastly diverse scenery will ensure that there is always something new to see and experience on this truly unique continent.
